Nominations for the 2023 DG Youth Awards have now closed!
The Awards evening will be held in Easterbrook Hall, on Thursday 23rd November. The evening promises to be an excellent celebration of the successes and achievements of our young people, with exciting entertainment by local young people and of course the main awards ceremony.
cATEGORIES
Sport
The Sports award will recognise a young person who has excelled in their sport at a local, regional or national level.
or a young person who is helping to increase the access and opportunities for young people in Dumfries and Galloway to participate in sport and physical activity.
We want to hear about teams, individuals, volunteers and indeed any young person who is inspiring others through sports and physical activity.
Culture, Arts & Entertainment Award
The Culture & the Arts Award will recognise a young person who has an exceptional ability in any form of the culture arts and entertainment sector.
This could be a young musician, writer, actor, dancer, performer or artist who demonstrate raw talent and is a rising star emerging from Dumfries and Galloway.
Young Volunteer
This award will recognise a young volunteer who dedicates their time towards making a difference in their local community. This award will celebrate a young person who goes above and beyond, with the aim of improving the lives of people within their community through the voluntary work that they undertake. This young person is a role model and displays commitment and passion towards their valuable role as a young volunteer.
Young Change Maker
This award recognises a young person who is actively involved in raising awareness on a topic and/or issue and promotes change to make a difference within their community and to the lives of young people. This young person campaigns or demonstrated good leadership and citizenship by influencing decision-making at a local/regional/national level, and may have participated in campaigns, or made a huge difference through volunteering and leadership.
Unsung Hero
Do you know a young person in your local community who has went the extra mile recently? This could be through donating their time and energy free of charge to help others on a regular basis, or it could be a one-off event where they have done something heroic!
This award will recognise a young person who has maybe overcome difficult personal circumstances or has risen to a challenge, giving their help to those who need it. They may have overcome great odds or made sacrifices above and beyond the call of duty.
Equality
The Equality Award will recognise a young person who actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion for all young people in Dumfries and Galloway. This could be through education, campaigning, advocating, engagement with local decision makers and contributing to local forums and organisations. They believe that every young person should be able to achieve their potential free from prejudice and discrimination, working hard to ensure they are getting the chance to do so by creating new opportunities and experiences for young people across all races, genders, faiths, cultures, communities and identities.
Group of the Year
The Group Award will recognise and celebrate a project, initiative or group that is having a positive impact on their lives or the lives of others through the delivery of experiences and opportunities. This could be through a school, youth group, a uniformed group, or a junior sports group to name a few. This award will recognise a group that provides young people with opportunities free of charge, broadens their horizons, and enables them to realise their potential.
Young Enterprise and Business Award
This award will recognise a young person who is making a positive difference in Dumfries and Galloway through their active involvement in the regeneration of their local community or running a social enterprise or their own business. This award will recognise a young person who has been actively involved in regenerating the area within which they live, whether through improving outdoor spaces, or though helping to improve physical buildings or spaces for people in their community. They will show determination to ensure the communities they live in are a better place to live, learn and grow up. This award could also recognise a young person who has overcome barriers to achieve success in creating a sustainable business or a social enterprise which serves and benefits the local community.
Youth Worker of the Year (Paid)
This award will recognise exceptional adults who work with young people by dedicating their time to making a difference in the lives of young people whether this is through youth work, work in their local community or by providing opportunities for young people to explore their potential. This award is for a person who has excelled at building positive relationships with young people, helping them to see their potential and fulfil it. They are hard working, patient, caring and a great example to young people.
Youth Worker of the Year (Volunteer or volunteer involving organisation)
This award will recognise exceptional adults who volunteer with young people by dedicating their time to making a difference in the lives of young people whether this is through youth work, work in their local community or by providing opportunities for young people to explore their potential. This award is for a person who has excelled at building positive relationships with young people, helping them to see their potential and fulfil it. They are hard working, patient, caring and a great example to young people.
